First post of 2016! Here’s a quick run-down of what’s been going on and where I’m headed this year. The theme for 2016 is DON’T BE STUPID.
Training started last week! I worked my mileage up from 30 to 40 in December and last week hit 43.5 (yes, I’m counting that .5). Mostly easy miles and some mini workouts. I unfortunately hit a minor bump in the road this week in the form of an awful back spasm Monday afternoon. A visit to my chiropractor got me straightened out, but I missed a day of training and am just doing some easy running for the rest of this week until I feel 100% (<— this goes along with the theme mentioned above).
Which brings me to my goals for 2016. I’ve never been successful with resolutions and I’m not sure why, but what I do know is that I can set some achievable, measurable running and fitness goals for this year. I have other goals for my personal life, but we’ll just stick to the running goals since this is a running blog.
1. Core two times/week. I have a routine that takes about 20 minutes and includes some one leg bridges, bird dogs, planks, balance exercises, and a few exercises with therabands. Plus foam rolling which I hate doing but am forcing myself to keep up with.
2. Go to chiropractor for adjustment once/month. This one is pretty easy because I’ve already been in the routine for a few months, but it’s still tough to pack both kids up and get out the door when it’s 5 degrees.
3. Eat 3 meals/day plus snacks anytime I’m hungry. I admit I didn’t even do this today. I’m good with breakfast and dinner but lunch is a struggle. I often have several large snacks in the afternoon instead of a full meal because I’m rushing around or I only have one hand free. So I end up eating a banana and Picky Bar, cheese and crackers, an avocado and tortilla chips, and a few spoonfuls of peanut butter. Not that any of those choices are bad, it’s just that I know I can do better. Working on it.
I’m hoping that if I focus on these little details it will help me get to the starting line healthy this spring.
Here’s a throwback post from New Years a few years ago, just for fun.
