This week has been a huge challenge for me. I am feeling exactly like I felt last winter, when I found out I was deficient in vitamin D. I also think I need to get some good sleep. I decided to make today a rest day and instead I picked up a gingerbread latte and am now looking out my window at the rain. I actually like running in the rain, but today a rest day is in order.

[edit: Turns out I miscounted the number of weeks until my marathon and I get an extra recovery week. Excellent timing on my part, but it wasn’t on purpose.]

I used to have such a hard time training on my own. I would train like a crazy person when school was in session, but during winter break it was a totally different story. Summers were even worse. Now I’m amazed at how much I can do without a coach. I’ve been pushing myself so much lately that I can tell I’m on the verge of overtraining. Luckily, I can re-arrange my training without feeling [completely] guilty.

Pete and I have been thinking a lot about where to go for vacation in the new year. We definitely want to take a trip to California, and are also considering a trip to Arizona again (we went on our honeymoon in Sedona in 2009). Not sure if we’re going to make one of them a destination race vacation, but we’re considering it.

I guess we’ll have to see how track season goes. It would be fun to take him to Stanford for one of the meets there and then hang out in Sonoma or Napa for awhile. He’s never been there, and it’s been awhile for me. I love being on the east coast because my family is here, but I miss the west coast sometimes. Maybe some California sunshine will solve my vitamin D problem.

Anyway, we leave for NY tomorrow, which I am super excited for. And I just heard we have a chance of snow on Christmas!
